“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”
UC Quake Centre is relocating its offices from the Okeover Building on the western side of campus (off the Ilam Road end of University Drive) to the more central location of the Biology Building. Staff offices will be merging with QuakeCORE’s administration on level four, overlooking the Central Lecture Theatre Block and Lawn.
QuakeCoRE (Centre of Research Excellence) is a new initiative in 2016, funded by the Government’s Tertiary Education Commission. It is a network of earthquake resilience researchers who work together throughout the country and the world to deliver multidisciplinary research spanning engineering, physical and social sciences. Hosted by UC, it runs in partnership with the University of Auckland, Victoria University, Massey University, Unitec, Waikato University, Resilient Organisations, GNS Science and BRANZ.
Working in the same space will make communication and resource-sharing between the two research centres easy. Quake Centre will benefit from closer ties with international specialists, and QuakeCoRE will be well-positioned to learn from the Centre’s five years of experience.
