Two new faces on the Quake Centre team

The Quake Centre is proud to announce the appointment of two new members to the team, Research Engineer Sahin Tasligedik, and Project Manager Cathy Gillespie.

Sahin Tasligedik has just completed a PhD in the Department of Civil & Natural Resource Engineering at UC. His primary supervisor was Prof. Stefano Pampanin.
Upon joining the QC team in late January 2014, Sahin will work initially in a number of research and course development areas. He completed his engineering Bachelor and Master degrees at the Middle East Technical University in Turkey.
Sahin has considerable teaching and research experience and has worked in reinforced concrete (RC) design, seismic retro-fit of RC structures and development of low damage non-structural building elements such as walls and ceilings. He was heavily involved in building assessments following the Feb 2011 Christchurch earthquakes and was the recipient of the IPENZ Fulton-Downer Gold Medal award in 2011 for public services.
Cathy Gillespie has been engaged on a part-time basis to manage the SCIRT Learning Legacy project, which has just commenced in Jan 2014.
Cathy is a project manager with a strong focus on the design of learning, ensuring quality and value for money learning resources are developed. She is experienced and has qualifications in the full spectrum of learning, including learning vision, planning, administration, communication, delivery, evaluation and learning management.
She is used to managing a wide variety of projects at any one time for a range of clients. She is currently completing an eLearning post-graduate course in her spare time and enjoys the challenge of keeping up with the learning environment while it evolves at such a rapid pace!
Cathy has come into learning through an unusual route. Having trained and worked as a Forensic Scientist for a number of years, she then homed in on software applications training, becoming a Microsoft Master Instructor. Since moving to New Zealand in 2002, she has been applying her learning expertise to a much broader spectrum of opportunities and is very excited that the SCIRT Learning Legacy Project is the next step in that journey.
